    Founded

SCG was founded at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, in direct affiliation with the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets.

    EY partnership

EY sends consultants to lead workshops, pairs each project with consultants, senior managers and partners, and connects members to EY recruiters. SCG has partnered with EY since 2020.

  3. Every year

    Smith Impact Case Competition

Each year SCG collaborates with the Center for Social Value Creation to host the Smith Impact Case Competition. The winning team earns a cash prize and represents UMD at the Seattle Milgard Invitational Case Competition.

What we stand for

Our pillars

  • Three members writing ideas on a large whiteboard in a meeting room.

    Commitment to Excellence in Service

    Client-focused work, executed well.

Every engagement starts from the client's specific needs and is delivered to a high standard. We aim for long-term relationships by consistently meeting expectations and supporting clients after the work is handed over.

  • SCG members in business attire gathered on the front steps of the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

    Upholding Professionalism

    Integrity, expertise and accountability.

We hold every client interaction to high standards of integrity, expertise and accountability, and build a culture of continuous learning, ethical decisions and respect, so clients can trust the work.

  • A group of SCG members in casual clothes standing on large rocks above a river on a sunny autumn hike.

Fostering a Strong Sense of Community

Collaboration inside SCG and beyond it.

We work collaboratively within SCG and with outside stakeholders, share knowledge and support one another, and take on work whose impact reaches beyond business outcomes.

Client work

How a project works

From a client's first request to the final deliverables, each semester.

A crowd of students walking along a campus path past tables and booths at an outdoor fair on a sunny day.

Step 1 of 5

Client request

A client submits a request, and SCG scopes it into a Statement of Work (SoW).

Step 4 of 5

EY guidance

Each client team is paired with EY consultants, senior managers and partners for direction.

Step 5 of 5
